~ Sunhiilow is Valérie Magisson, an ambient / psychedelic drone musician from Rennes, France. starting in 2011, her music explores landscapes of tribal pulse and mythic lullabies, telling stories about echoes and odd imaginations from the lost cultures. Pine Smoke Lodge are a free-drone duo from Portland, Maine. ~

dejando aparte los entrañables Pine Smoke Lodge, cuyas canciones no he podido escuchar pero seguro que son preciosas como siempre, sigo teniendo la sensación de que la música de Sunhiilow no ha sido apreciada en toda su magnitud. con lo grande que es y lo poquito que nos acordamos de ella. para muestra, dos botones. los más bonitos y 'ladies and gentleman' que ha compuesto nunca Valérie Magisson:'exploration' y 'awakening'. las atmósferas de Daniel Kobialka flotan entrelazadas con el espíritu de 'the healing music of Rana'. y así, desde la primera nota, todo se impregna de un magnético ambiente se diría sacado de la banda sonora de 'cosmos'. tal cual flotar en el espacio.

"the debut release by Calypso Borealis starts off in a foggy, “half-awake in a dew-dappled garden” Sunroof!/early Hototogisu type zone, with hesitant clean guitar noodles, childlike xylophone tinkles, free folky percussion patters and brittle waves of distortion doing their thing over a reedy organ drone. about halfway through the piece (which is entitled “Epoung Nou”) a different, slightly darker drone hovers in and juxtaposes itself against the seemingly oblivious xylophone, while splashing cymbals and wah-ing synths battle for your attention somewhere off in the distance..." tape sauce

me da mucha pena cuando los sellos empiezan a desaparecer poco a poco. Existencial Cloth nos regaló en el pasado cintas preciosas con diseños preciosos, como Reedbeds, Quiet Evenings, Dream Safari, Sky Stadium, Deep Magic, Archers by the Sea y esta maravilla de Calypso Borealis, su primera cinta e inencontrable, al menos para mí, durante años. Emmanuel que, increíbles casualidades de la vida, es de origen gallego y veranea en Nigrán todos los veranos, tuvo a bien enviármela y aquí está, por fin, para disfrutar de su verde musgo y de sus drones dulcísimos en todo su esplendor.
