obsidian pond / leveret & bird people / jake blanchard

"Artefacts" is a new tape by Obsidian Pond from Manchester. Two side-long tracks that consist of several shorter loops, with lots of sub-bass to massage your brain."

"i see this project as almost a separate entity from myself. the sources are external and a strange area of my brain is used. each side recorded in one long take in two long days. tried by chance to capture a moment in a found tape that, when repeated, will invoke distinct situations and feelings. each piece/loop seems to tell different stories for different people. each piece is a repeated symbol. personally see a lot of foggy/watery scenes in this music. walk into a lake and never come out." alecs/obsidian pond

"Offerings" is a seasonal split tape by Manchester-based Leveret and Bird People. Alex from Leveret and Obsidian Pond approached me about releasing a tape and he had his side for this ready. I loved both the recordings and the idea of a seasonal split tape, so I decided to record some new Bird People material for this. We were both inspired by the tradition of giving gifts or offerings at Christmas/Yule and the aspect of the renewal of life celebrated at this time, also found in many tradition. we create acoustic spaces and try to transport and translate them to beautiful people everywhere. drones, string instruments, trickster gods, lots of birds, and songs about sally and other lunar things." uli rois/bird people

"I'm very proud to present this debut release from Jake Blanchard, owner of the great Tor Press label and as a visual artist responsible for some of my favorite record covers. Jake's music explores some of the same themes as his art. The tape is titled "Archaic Practices" and to these ears, that's a lot what it sounds like. There is something ancient and ritualistic about these four tracks, an atmosphere that is at once both inviting and foreboding. Comes with original artwork by Jake Blanchard, screen-printed on card stock by Ross Lovelock (bathtub printing, bumtapes) Limited edition of 100"

zack kouns

"Zack Kouns is author, graphic artist, adventurer, theosophist and composer from Ohio. Despite the rarity of his public appearances though, he is known to be prolific with his release of recorded music on boutique labels including Chocolate Monk, Bumtapes, Isle of Man and Tired Trails. He is drawing from experimental music, folk and lo-fi jazz, religion, mythology, ancient history, and romantic philosophy."

"human voice, tenor and alto saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, temple blocks, chinese opera gong, tape manipulation, violin, banjo, reel to reel tape recorder, piano, accordion, whirly, piers as empty as arms, congas, synthesizers, tunnels, electronics, roto toms, timbales, duck call, slide whistle, ukelele, zither, theremin, turtle from a junk shop in Missouri, night time, balalaika, native american flute, kalimba, bamboo xylophone, organ, chanter, whispers, silence and space, tremolo harmonica, agogo, elephant bells, drills, translucent recorder, thunder tube, flute, painful passages, drum kit, thin purplish scar, fire bells, hubcaps, bodies of water, cello, sitar, shruti, electronic bagpipes, melodica, bandoneon, harp, silence, chant, dulcimer, omnichord, harmonium, carrying everything with him that he thought had died"

second family band

"Another incredible offering from the Second Family Band camp, documenting their huge collective burnouts. side A begins with a Murky laidback basement jam which quickly morphs into a psychedelic banjo romp, and ends with the incredible tropical sounding shamanic title track.
The flip sides drugged up guitar solo and loose percussion keeps the pace for another of the band’s sonic meditations, which all accumulates into the last track’s laid back Dub Vibes, perfectly suited for heaviest smokers soundtrack." bum tapes

tulasi

"Bumtapes is proud to give you another chance to hear this incredible album, plus another previously unreleased track from the same sessions, and with all new artwork. Originally released on vinyl in an edition of 118 copies by Troglosound in 2008 (now totally sold out) Finland’s Tulasi crafted an album drenched in Eastern drones and Finnish backroad folk meditations. The two musicians who make up the band have also featured in bands such as Vapaa, Keijo & Free Players, Aan, Uton, Kulkija and Kutomo. And have also previously released a cassette on Sloow tapes.

To quote the original write up for the LP...."One of the most harmonic expressions of spiritual freak-folk coming out from Finland, Tulasi spreads around warm and positive feelings, created through spontaneous junctions of flute, guitar, violin, percussions, tambura and voices. So, the perfect sound to bring our Souls peacefully inside the wintertime is coming directly from the North”. bumtapes
