Greetings, dear follower! Today we resume our 2019 mix series for a special mixtape made by Sean Conrad ~ an artist and label curator whose work must be familiar even to our least frequent readers. Through the years, Inner Islands label remains one of our most beloved labels simply because it shares the same aesthetics and feeling we always tried to carry on here on Microphones. Some of the most soulful ambiences and gentle new age hymns are being released at Inner Islands and under Sean's main aliases ~ Ashan and Channelers, among many others which you can always explore through Discogs. Sean's mix features tunes radiating love and light, joy of the being here on this planet and simply experiencing being a human with all its ups and downs ~ as an ongoing project of neverending evolution. In preparation for their Japan tour with Grouper in April 2012, En (Maxwell August Croy & James Devane) defined the genesis for 'Blood'. Upon returning home, ideas developed from their performances were fleshed out and a new organism birthed. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma was sent parts of the completed En track, which he used to create 'Blood Variations'.

Esta maravilla es inquietante como el mar. Uno puede mirarlo distraídamente por un instante sin sentir nada particularmente intenso ó fuera de lo común. Pero observarlo detenidamente puede resultar abrumador. Es demasiado grande… y esa dimensión desmedida, en algunos casos, lo que logra es reducirnos a nuestras verdaderas proporciones: Un molusco reptando por las profundidades de un océano vasto como el cielo. Este disco provoca a través del sonido el mismo efecto que produce la contemplación del mar por la noche. Es un hechizo fosforescente, a veces oscuro como una caverna llena de focas, a veces resplandeciente como un castillo de vidrio puro. El disco se llama “Sangre”. Los cuerpos son ríos que desembocan en el espacio. Lo que EN logra con estos registros, es captar algo tan bello y a su vez tan remoto y oscuro, que mejor me callo la boca y me encierro a escucharlo en una cabina telefónica, por la madrugada, en medio del desierto, bajo el cielo más estrellado de la historia del mundo.

Con respecto al álbum en sí, puedo agregar que sólo me enfoqué en el Lado A. “Blood” es de lo más importante e intenso que escuché en mi vida.

No conocía a este pequeño sello de cassettes llamado “Constellation Tatsu”. Creo que hay que prestarle mucha atención a todo lo que editan. En la página “About” de su sitio en Internet, definen su actividad con una frase de Faulkner: “…at last to pass beyond the realm of hearing, into that of sense, like soundless vibration.“

"Jewelt Galaxies/Spirit Shambles is their 1st full album collecting the first two cd'r releases from The Alps. Following a specially tuned internal compass that leads them from open meadows and rushing rivers to urban chaos and decay, The Alps use a variety of sound sources (Wooden Flute, Tabla, Orchestra Bells, Electric Guitar, Omnichord, Microphone, Clarinet, Violin Bow, Acoustic Guitar, Organ, Shakers, Mixer, Voice, Cassette Tape, Sleigh Bells. This was recorded with one microphone in Scott Hewickers's living room mostly in one session on November 14, 2005 and a bit in August earlier in the year. Of their debut Jewelt Galaxies, the good people at Aquarius Records had this to say : "Glistening meditative soundscapes well-suited to gazing at frosty mountain peaks such as those of their namesake. Squeaky clarinets and alien flute melted into whirls of swish and whoosh, all laid over drones and instrument hum and tape hiss. Quite beautiful." In the coming months, the group will release a 12" on visual artist Chris Johanson's new imprint Awesome Vistas. The group will also contribute a song to Devendra Banhart's forthcoming tribute compilation devoted to the works of the Clive Palmer." Jefre Cantu-Ledesma / The Alps

The Alps son Jefre Cantu-Ledesma de Tarentel, Alexis Georgopoulos y Scott Hewicker. Jewelt Galaxies/Spirit Shambles (publicados inicialmente en Roots Strata y Foxglove) son dos discos en uno que se pasan en un suspiro y que Spekk ha tenido la genial idea de reeditar. ambos poseen todas y cada una de las características que han hecho de Root Strata y, sobre todo, Foxglove dos sellos imprescindibles, trozos de folk, jazz, drones y psicodelia interpretados de una forma muy personal. Tintinabulations es la compañera de Peter Pan esparciendo una estela de drones, flautas, violines, percusiones, clarinetes y campanillas con su varita mágica, una fábula sonora y una vez más la conexión definitiva con Town & Country, Bird Show y The Zoo Wheel. The River lies with the lilies: es muy muy difícil sonar como Sala-Arhimo, pero las primeras notas de esta preciosidad de guitarra acústica y marimbas flotantes con una explosión final de jazz atmósferico y psicodelia se acerca mucho.. Moon over Egypt: un viaje a Egipto, a las catacumbas, al corazón de la selva. Davenport y el colectivo Jewelled Antler al completo. O Wind: el encuentro soñado entre Raro & Apenino y Kuupuu. además de un sueño, una jam absorvente y contagiosa, un paisaje de árboles y montañas, y ese sonido tan cercano y familiar. Bird with the crystal plumage: los monjes de Silos fichan por Foxglove y le dedican un raga al pájaro con el plumaje de cristal, un festín de diecisiete minutos de bongos orientales y flautas, la belleza. no es world music pero relaja más que un masaje tailandés. Autumn Rhythm: si Carlos Paredes decidiese colaborar con Voice of the Seven Woods seguro que sonaría así. apuntes de folk otoñal y una guitarra cristalina.
