ulaan passerine

"It is a supreme honor to have commissioned the latest work from the great American multi-instrumentalist Steven R. Smith; and this album is beyond what we could have imagined to receive in response. many know Steven R. Smith from his picture perfect albums of inspired Eastern European folk music under the name Hala Strana and his tours of duty with the legendary naturopathic post-industrial ensemble known as Thuja. more recently, aside from recordings under his birth name, Smith has graced listeners with the far-reaching circular psych maneuvers of the Ulaan series of works, which has thus far birthed Ulaan Khol, Ulaan Markhor, and this newest incarnation~Ulaan Passerine.  this, our first ever double cassette release, features four side-long steady desert marches wrapped in epic swathes of mellotron and twisting sine waves. between the royal gestures of his guitar and keyboard driven passages, snake precious minimalist prayer bell loops, electric piano mantras and pastoral drones. from the faintest trace of ether, Steven R. Smith can pull a stunning atmosphere that surrounds and plunges us into a massive inner world of stoic trance and life-affirming harmony. a master at all manner of string instrument, Smith coaxes his triumphant songs with a slow hand reminiscent of a Dylan Carlson or Jozef van Wissem, if either of them were caught ruminating with a 6-string acoustic guitar, lost in the deep wild West."

golden brown

"Golden Brown is a lo-fi, home recording project of mainly instrumental folk based psychedelic music, a laid back mix of ambient sounds and a few folk elements with some dub echo effects. a while ago it would called tropical, but they don't doodling the whole time uninspired or stoned, through the greenhouse with a loop pedal and a chorus ~ no they put some more efford in it and show us some short trip At Golden Beach with Musique concrete or with Cycles a weird fuzzy kalimba tribal tune. listening to their music makes me think of Henri Rousseau's paintings. So download for free from their bandcamp and explore something." dfbm

"I have been recording music as Golden Brown for about 6 years. In the past, my music had been a little more folk based and centered around fingerpicked guitar. for High Tide At Gold Beach, I wanted to make some music that was more rhythm driven and at the same time atmospheric, going for texture more than melody. I've been listening to lots of music from Mali, so there's an aspect of that in there too. some of the tracks are built around loops that I made with some hand drums and handheld percussion. on top of that are layered guitar, prepared guitar, keyboards & lots of delay/echo. every sound on there came from me. this album was recorded at home over the course of about two years. I play a little kalimba on Cycles. the guitar I use is a National Resolectric so it has a wide range of sounds from acoustic to electric. keyboards are Nord Electro and Yamaha Porta-Sound 200." stefan beck

fluorescent heights

"It is with great pleasure we get to introduce to you, the soaring drones and panes of Fluorescent Heights, the musical moniker of young Stockholmer Henrik Stelzer. Together we will embark on the release of his debut album Tourism, due November 28th. Tourism is a peaceful 40 minute, 9 track stretch of unique lo-fi lullabies and creeping analogue ambiences." subsuburban

"A lot of the tracks on the album has themes about the ocean, rivers and finding yourself in almost a lucid dreaming state of mind." henrik stelzer

"This split cassette from our Swedish friends over at Zeon Light showcases the ethereal underwater ebbs and flows from wonderkid Fluorescent Heights and also a snippet track from Saigon which is much less easy on the ear, but still worthy a spot on the inprint. Fluorescent Heights dropped his EP on Subsuburban last year, but releases a lot of stuff on cassette with Zeon Light." homeless mind theory

"Influenced by the suspense atmospherics of worn out horror movies and those hazy family beach memories he crafts foggy drone pads and shimmering harmonic synth loops." zeon light

lunar miasma

"Grecian synth lord Panos Alexiadis has been releasing music steadily as Lunar Miasma over the past three years, ratcheting up the intensity significantly with each new missive. Managing the Dream is certainly no exception in that regard, diving deep into a world of lucid dreams and nighttime hallucinations. There's a real narrative feel to the release, consisting of two dense, long-form pieces in the middle and two short but sweet pieces at each end. Showcasing his impressive abilities as a player, Alexiadis unleashes rapid-fire keyboard solos that dance atop gorgeous melodic loops which sound as though they were imported from another realm. The dream is under your control and the possibilities are endless...what will you do next?" tranquility tapes

"gorgeous ambient synth music that floats and progresses in a uniquely melodic and spacious manner. for that reason, Panos Alexiadis has a truly distinct voice, and his numerous releases always arrive to high expectations. his latest album is another example of why few artists can compete with Alexiadis. four pieces of haunting glacial beauty unfold over two sides, reverberating and melting into one another, while False Memories builds into a truly magical work of art." zen effects

"Lunar Miasma from Greece is handing over three pieces of lush synthesizer meditations. Berlin-School-Style? Of course,… but: despite the now wide spread love for mid-seventies-adventures-in-modular-music „Impermanent Nature“ goes beyond the style of its ancestors. Panos Alexiadis effortlessly reaches out into stellar and colorful sonic worlds unmapped and the recorded music on „Impermanent Nature“ is in contrast to its title a constant source of energy. we don’t know how Panos does the trick, but listening over and over we’ve been flabbergasted. deep shit, no kidding" sicsic tapes

calypso borealis /carter mullin / banana pill / bandicoot trail

"Calypso Borealis provides some more mysterious synth/field recording mixes that provide a further enhancing to the projects small yet encapsulating discography that includes stellar offerings on Housecraft, and Cloud Valley. Carter Mullin (Reedbeds, Calypso Hum) handed me some beautifully thoughtful and personal recordings in Parotia Mold. a glimpse of Carter's warm guitar tone float that strengthens his young, fresh ideas in the ever-flowing self released underground ocean." house of sun

"long-distance collaboration between scott johnson (thoughts on air, organ of species) and carter mullin (reedbeds). the details emerge as the controls of the audio filtration system are set to “submerge.” pro-printed, pro-duplicated, edition of 60." fadeaway tapes

"Banana Pill’s compositions may seem fragile but in fact each is a fortress of calm. this is herbal music. for everyone looking for the sweetest drones and peaceful vibes here’s the self-titled statement from the duo. made of toys, guitar, synths, violin and voice. float easy." full of nothing

high wolf

"ascendent, crystallized tones from High Wolf.  calm, mantric expansions, burning at the center.  France's finest in contemporary psych." sun ark

black eagle child

"to know Black Eagle Child is to love Black Eagle Child. under this pseudonym, Michael Jantz makes the kind of music that anyone can fall in love with, even children, one of whom actually has some guest vocals on this brilliant new record. although Pages on a Plane saw its release this summer, it still stands as a remarkable work and one of Jantz’s most compelling statements yet. full of luscious, looping guitar melodies, this one even features an absolutely killer track with an uncharacteristic steady, grooving drum beat. covering new ground while also capitalizing on what he does best, Jantz has made a truly essential album." zen effects

"outdoor field recordings bolster the music's natural feel, with Jantz creating luscious tapestries of picked guitars" under the spire

como dice zen effects, es imposible no enamorarse de black eagle child, cada disco suyo es siempre motivo de alegría, pero además, tal vez porque lo tengo reciente, 'pages on a plane' es a michael jantz lo que 'the garden of eternal life' a mark macguire, ese disco perfecto que consigue ponerte la piel de gallina desde la primera hasta la última nota. en especial las flotante 'cycle to the moon' y la infinitamente tierna 'i am a bunny'. kraut field pastoral recordings

pears | clathrus

"like a calm breeze that just washed you up on a sandy beach, then gently blows you around as the sun sets. pears is gary reuben morris, who also goes by curly fingers and lagos disco machine. gary is from cape town and lives in new york." aava gaava

"clathrus is a digital voodoo experimental electronic project from moscow, russia. their music is a cool little collection of laid back, electronic dreamscapes. there's a nice kind of folky, world music vibe running through the album, especially noticeable in the vaguely gamelan percussion. recommended for your trance-inducing pleasure." geräuschkrieg

wyld wyzrdz

"The pieces that comprise Free Magick are best understood as destinations on an unseen map for an unseen world, or places of the heart. During the recording process I entertained energies within and outside myself that were new and fascinating. Because of this I do not feel that it is solely my album, but rather collaboration with the unknown. It stands as my most sincere work to date, a true reflection of my inner journey and a statement to the magick of mystery." braden j mckenna • wyld wyzrdz

"...oceans, bees, whales and wind bolster the already pastoral feel of Free Magick, while electronic sounds try to sound organic." tome to the weather machine
