monster rally & rumtum

"Coasting is the second collaborative effort from Cleveland natives Monster Rally and RumTum. It picks up where the duo left off on their debut EP, finding the artists sharing samples, vinyl, and drums. their funk-influenced, beat-driven tracks are put through a globe-trotting lens of Caribbean calypso (Sunbay Hotel), Middle Eastern dance (Veil), Peruvian cumbia (Chicks) and American soul (Coasting). the title refers to the recent cross-country moves that Feighan and Hastings both made in the last year (to Los Angeles and Seattle respectively). the EP is a reflection of these new locations and has a sunnier, more upbeat vibe than Monster Rally & RumTum EP's winter influenced beats.

the artwork on the 12" is an internationally influenced piece as well. Combining Asian, Middle-Eastern, Native American and Indian cultural motifs, the EP artwork visually mirrors the sonic compositions that it represents. the etching on the vinyl is a Mandala, influenced by Tibetan sand paintings." gold robot

monster rally & rumtum

"just months off the heels of its collaborative debut, mr&rt, the duo of Monster RallyRumtum (a.k.a. Ted Feighan and John Hastings) is back with a new offering. on their new digital single, "Sunbay Hotel," the cross-continental producers assimilate genres like tropicalia and lounge into their beat-heavy production, opening with jangly and warm instrumentation that slowly gives way to vibes straight out of an old James Bond flick. but don't get it twisted~the rhythms at the core of Monster Rally & Rumtum's new tune are still unabashedly hip-hop." xlr8r

monster rally

"Beyond the Sea is the second full length album from Monster Rally. The records sampled to create this album were dug from cities across the country and have been thrown through the lens of Monster Rally's lo-fi production. The resulting album builds upon the skeleton of 2011's Coral, adding muscle and structure in interesting places, to create a 42 minute song-cycle and continue Monster Rally's exploration of sonic collage. The vinyl edition comes pressed on lava red vinyl in a single gatefold jacket, all artwork is created by Ted Feighan (Monster Rally). A limited edition signed art booklet will be included in the first 100 pre-orders." golden robot

pre-order | download & see "jaguar"

monster rally & rumtum

"Monster Rally & RUMTUM is the collaboration of Ted Feighan (Monster Rally) and John Hastings (RUMTUM). The two natives of Cleveland met in Columbus through mutual friends and began bonding over a love of beat music. The project is the exploration of their shared musical tastes and features influences from a broad range of styles including hip-hop, psych-pop, dub, dance and funk. The EP, MR&RT, is a seven-track introduction to the sound of Monster Rally & RUMTUM and serves as a preview of what’s to come." waaga records

monster rally

"This is potentially the most leisurely release of the year...Monster Rally is the brainchild of Cleveland, Ohio’s Ted Feighan. Piecing together vinyl samples of yesteryear’s chillest as if recalling a story, Monster Rally is all about loopy, fun collages that come to life as their own entities. As a nostalgic past glistens through each jam, you cannot shake the feeling that there is a full band playing; you can feel the spirit of long-lost souls letting their internal light shine through each carefree note. It is a testament to avid sample-collectors and space is the place-ers alike..." zen tapes

"Monster Rally sent over Crystal Ball, a collection of loop-based material that was recorded “in an unbelievably hot attic” during the Palm Reader sessions of July 2010. It’s intriguing to hear him work with more vocal-heavy samples with this record, which almost serves as a primer for the rest of his catalog. You can pick your price for these tropics on his bandcamp for a limited time only" dipped in dollars

"...Ted Feighan creates an atmosphere that’s light, fun, sand between the toes fresh. It’s hip-hop, stylistically lo-fi, and Beach Boy madness. Really takes the mind off of nonverbal postures that elicit dominant interviewing techniques and puts me on the beach hoping to catch a sunset."

monster rally

"One of the more admirable qualities of music is its ability to take you somewhere. Sometimes it is somewhere you've already been. Other times, it takes you to a Midcentury pool party where everyone is blazed, doing the Watusi on the patio and enjoying an endless summer. Monster Rally resides on this plane of permanent vacation." imposse
