lost roman legions
United Bible Studies (Irlanda) y Pumice (Nueva Zelanda) estuvieron de gira por tierras irlandesas a principios del 2005. Durante esos conciertos decidieron unirse bajo el nombre de Lost Roman Legions, y grabar su primer y hasta el momento único disco en Deserted Village, hogar además del grupo fetiche The Magickal Folk of The Faraway Tree.
Música improvisada en vivo y en directo que une la magia y la épica de United Bibles Studies con las melancólicas reflexiones de Pumice. El blues de las catacumbas, la guitarras ambientales y fantasmagóricas y las voces a lo Larkin Grimm. En tres palabras: muy muy bonito.

'Y Aidan Moffat no bebió. Decidió que se quedaría en casa y que no bebería. Sabía que tenía que ponerle música a otra tirita, tomó como referencia la producción casera del sorprendente "the week never starts rounds here". Solo le faltaba poner un título a la canción y un pseudónimo para los créditos. Cerró los ojos y lo vió claro. Ya solo quedaba seguir tocando para completar el disco, le llamaría "Anchor details".'

impresionante disco de 1972 (no confundir con otro grupo folk rock también de los setenta de idéntico nombre). estos árboles pertenecen a otra galaxia...hippychristianfolk. el sello SomeDarkHoller lo ha reeditado hace relativamente poco con muchas canciones inéditas repartidas en cuatro cedés. Joanna Newsom, Ghost, Sun Ra...Indescriptible y maravilloso. Lo admito, me invade la emoción y necesito tenerlo cuanto antes entre mis manos. Obra maestra!

Un poco de fantasía medieval...despues de nueve dicos y un split compartido con The North Sea, Xenis Emputae Travelling Band (Phil Legard) le dan la vuelta a la tortilla, su tortilla. Diecinueve minutos concentrados en un sólo corte: drones, psych folk, rituales, música pastoral e improvisación...como si Alan 'Kitchen' Cynic se encontrara en el bosque con Sunburned Hand of The Man y tocaran juntos hasta el amanecer.

a tribute to john fahey
La verdad es que no me esperaba un homenaje tan bonito y tan variado al omnipresente John Fahey. Es difícil destacar sólo una, pero las versiones de Pelt, Sufjan Stevens y Fruit Bats me parecen tremendamente originales. Sólo una rompe un poco la línea y la magia general del disco (Lee Ranaldo). El resto...un derroche de sensibilidad y buen gusto. Producido por M Ward, se editará de forma oficial el día de los enamorados.

davenport
Puede que sólo exista un disco de Davenport que se pueda recomendar de corazón y sin ser muy fan: Free Country, pero este conejito con hélices en vez de patas guarda en su interior todo la filosofía del colectivo de Madison. Yuxtaposición anárquica y extravagante de mil y una capas de sonidos. Y entre todas esas capas hay, por lo menos, un momento deliciosamente folkie imposible de olvidar, de esos que te hacen cerrar los ojos y respirar profundo: In the Grass Again. Si alguien me dijera que se trata de una grabación perdida de Willie Dixon o Skip James me lo creería. El resto, a excepción de Deul for a sun o Agwe Breath, se disfruta a pleno sol y rodeado de árboles, manteles de cuadros, sandwiches y conejitos.

Flaviola y su banda del sol tocaban canciones de psicodelia folk brasileña, dulces y diminutas, allá por los años setenta. El resultado es un disco saltarín, más discreto en repercusión que el de Satwa o el de Lula Cortés y Zé Ramalho, y que estoy segura haría las delicias, como ya dije, de Devendra Banhart. A veces melancólico y triste (noite o Canto Fúnebre), y otras exultantemente alegre (Asas, a ritmo de carnaval). Disco olvidado del año...

Sufjan es como el Capitán Soledad de Paperhouse, al mando del timón de un yate como el de Vacaciones en el Mar, mirando ilusionado hacia un horizonte como el de Barrio Lejano. Con esa cara de panoli, tiene toda la pinta de ser un perfeccionista. Chicago es el himno de Illinois, pletórico de tristeza y felicidad, de coros, de vientos...cuanto más la escucho, más me gusta. Después de un viaje tan corto e intenso me quedo con esa agradable sensación de haber soltado, por fin, el lastre. Sólo espero que el vuelo sea real, y tan bonito al menos como el iniciado por el calcetín del cartel.
