sigue siendo un placer sentarse a escuchar cada nueva cinta de Field Studies, pequeñas cajitas geológicas que, como Mineral Tapes, siempre relaciono con piedras preciosas y minerales. cintas sin tiempo ni lugar. si hubiera que poner una fecha diría 1977, Sonoton y el Planeta Tierra. lo cierto es que podría decir que hay muy pocas cintas así pero últimamente es todo lo contrario. casi todas, o al menos las que más llaman mi atención, tienen un aura especial, parecen tocadas por una varita mágica, la varita de la sutilidad y la elegancia, de la atemporalidad. Alan Gesso lo tiene. tiene ese don que le permite abordar cualquier estilo sin perder nunca su sello personal, marcar giros inesperados y conseguir que te enamores. atípico, extraño y desconcertante pero ambient ensoñador al fin y al cabo.

si Floating Gardens convierte su habitación en un parque botánico, Alan convierte su estudio en un planetario, en una burbuja aislada del mundo exterior. 'obliscence' detiene el tiempo, se alimenta del pasado, nos devuelve el recuerdo de una generación irrepetible que con los años y sin pretenderlo sería una fuente inagotable de inspiración, un período de efervescencia vinílica, de investigación, de diseños a cada cual más bonito. ay, aquellos maravillosos años, la Library Music... describir las canciones, sin ayudarme de esas referencias, es casi siempre lo más difícil. Guide Me Little Tape dice que suena como explorar el sistema solar y yo no encuentro una definición más acertada. hay field recordings, sonidos extraños, el ulular de un búho, experimentos, paisajes sonoros, pero sobre todo viejos sintetizadores cósmicos que podrían ser la mezcla perfecta, siempre simplificando, de 'digital patterns' de Claude Larson y 'spirits of the voyage' de Michael Stearns. la intro de'people in the stereo' juega a esa electrónica naif de 'patchwork orchestra 5' de Roger Davy alternando frecuencias de radio con una preciosa segunda parte tal cual 'brumes sur mars'. aroma antiguo de principio a fin. después de eso, sabes que todo lo que venga te va a gustar. 'clive, con su melodía de teclado etéreo con Grapefruit en el horizonte, 'ajidamal', 'fleeting presence' y 'another heaven', Quiet Evenings, Schulze y Lunar Miasma en el corazón, pura dulzura, crecen, flotan y se expanden hasta el infinito recordando a muchas cosas tan difíciles de ubicar. otra de las canciones se titula 'cloud studies' y ahí ya me quedo sin palabras.
