van cayendo como meteoritos discos favoritos del año... qué más puedo pedir, casi al unísono 'forum' de Les Halles, 'era' de Oliwa y ahora 'invisible totem' de mi querida Valérie Magisson. cualquier cosa que pueda decir se queda pequeña. de las veces en que todo se resume en 'música que parece compuesta pensando en ti'. Sunhiilow siempre ha sido una de mis debilidades. no hay disco o canción que no haya incluído cada año en mis listas de favoritos, pero me alegra decir y celebrar que en 'invisible totem'  brilla como nunca lo había hecho. Valérie ha dado un paso más en su forma de dar inercia a las melodías, dejando que su sonido avance y se eleve por encima de lo que ya hizo en su split junto a Pine Smoke Lodge. nueve canciones-delicatessen que son una, entrelazadas a través de una temática inalterable: las civilizaciones perdidas. siempre con esos detalles que aparecen aquí y allá cual sutiles pinceladas de ambient minúsculo, cero grandilocuente, de new age tribal con una pizca muy muy ligera de eso que suelen llamar hipnagogia tropical.  

me gusta pensar que las canciones son universos que expresan el mundo de un modo reducido con pocos elementos. y según las elecciones que se hacen al componerlas, el mundo es mejor o peor. si hoy tuviera que elegir una sola canción que hiciera el mundo mejor un rato, no podría. sería 'invisible totem' de la pe a la pa. música celestial en su capacidad para contagiar tristeza, alegría e inspiración. 'dreamcatcher' ilumina: una noche de acampada, el cielo estrellado. me recuerda al catálogo de 'gift tapes' (J. Hanson), a .H. Takahashi, a Opaline. 'mandala power' es tan Of  The Dreams and Ambitions, tan maravillosamente Inspired School of  Astral Music. y 'seven moons', suave y soleada, francamente bonita. o 'invisible totem', la canción, que avanza imparable y magnética. 'andromeda sunrise' es la vida observada a través del telescopio de 'many moons', el universo de sounds of the down tal como lo vería Oliwa. 'invisible totem' es un todo. de cuando todo encaja, de cuando las notas suenan y fluyen como agua de río o como águilas sobrevolando el desierto. esa intangibilidad y delicadeza extrema tan características de Valerie Magisson. un disco cortito, poco más de veinte minutos, pero no pido más.

llevaba casi desde el invierno haciendo este compilado primaveral, siempre a punto de terminarlo, pero, inconscientemente o no, echaba de menos una canción de Günter Schlienz, una canción especial que me diese el impulso definitivo para subirlo. hay mil canciones favoritas que se han ido acumulando estos días: Inner Travels, x.r.y. (nueva cinta en Constellation Tatsu), Former Selves, Les Halles, Lake Mary, Tim Robertson, Mango Differential (Inner Travels y Opaline juntos), Metro Riders (Henrik Stelzer de Fluorescent Heights), Apenino & Árbore (micrófonos de contacto igual a magia), Tuluum Shimmering (Jake Webster debe haber compuesto catorce mil millones de canciones, y seguro que las hace en el tiempo que los demás nos comemos una bolsa de pipas...sobrenatural), Sunhiilow, Daniel Bachman, Anne Southam (de nuevo gracias a Toys and Tecniques), Dura, Raajmahal (si Pocahaunted y Christina Carter volviesen a grabar juntas, a bajísima fidelidad, y sonaran las flautillas de Tuluum Shimmering y Komodo Haunts, seguro que sonaría así), Miaux... pero la guinda ha sido poder abrirlo con la que es ahora mismo la canción más bonita del mundo: 'games at the creek' de Günter Schlienz, que resume sin quererlo el espíritu de 'music heals the soul', uno de los versos de 'art and life' del entrañable Ed Askew. 'games at the creek' es un regalo caído literalmente del cielo en el último momento. una de esas canciones clima que transcurren como en una nebulosa, que dicen tanto con tan poco y que podrías pasar la vida escuchándola. como 'art and life', como todas las que están aquí, porque al final todas comparten un mismo sentimiento, un ambiente y un estado de ánimo. gracias de corazón a Günter y Adam por compartirla con nosotros. y mil veces sí, mantengo lo que dije hace tiempo...él, y todos y cada uno de los nombres que aparecen aquí, es lo más bonito que le ha pasado a nuestro micromundo musical desde Jewelled Antler. demasiada música 'heals the soul' en el mundo. a compartir, pues ~

p.d.: y luego están un millón de canciones antiguas, auténticos hallazgos de hace más de cincuenta años, que siguen quedándose en el tintero. son tantas y tan bonitas que mi próximo compilado será única y exclusivamente dedicado a ellas.

dejando aparte los entrañables Pine Smoke Lodge, cuyas canciones no he podido escuchar pero seguro que son preciosas como siempre, sigo teniendo la sensación de que la música de Sunhiilow no ha sido apreciada en toda su magnitud. con lo grande que es y lo poquito que nos acordamos de ella. para muestra, dos botones. los más bonitos y 'ladies and gentleman' que ha compuesto nunca Valérie Magisson:'exploration' y 'awakening'. las atmósferas de Daniel Kobialka flotan entrelazadas con el espíritu de 'the healing music of Rana'. y así, desde la primera nota, todo se impregna de un magnético ambiente se diría sacado de la banda sonora de 'cosmos'. tal cual flotar en el espacio.

...y otra preciosidad de la mano de Jani Hirvonen y Valérie Magisson. parte de la emoción que tiene recomendar una cinta tan especial (las quince primeras copias vienen con una estrella de mar de la India y un mini libro purificado con incienso tibetano) es comprobar que a veces hay duendes que perciben exactamente las mismas cosas que tú y que podrías suscribir punto por punto cada palabra suya. cuánta razón tiene Tim Pied Paper cuando dice de 'a new beginning' que es imposible cubrir todo el espectro de sensaciones que despierta la música de Sunhiilow. algo que ocurre más que nunca en 'garden & cosmos', veintidós canciones cortitas e imaginativas que junto a las de Jani Hirvonen van más allá de un simple collage de sensaciones. 

todas las experiencias de ese viaje a la India de Valérie están aquí. 'cosmos' de Sunhiillow es ideal para ilustrar un paseo en canoa por las aguas de Alappuzha o simplemente para cerrar los ojos y soñar que estás allí. un remanso de belleza que consigue transmitir esa contínua calidez y espiritualidad hindú a cada segundo que pasa, a cada arrullo, cadencia, instrumento de viento o sintetizador celestial. son tantos sus aciertos y su magia... 'aurore astrale' me recuerda al sinuoso y repetitivo sintetizador que nunca estalla de Charlatan meets the North Sea y 'equinoxe' y 'moon stone' a las runas mágicas de Tara Burke ('la respiración circular de un teclado'), pero 'tucana's light' es el cielo, notas como gotas de lluvia que caen desde muy arriba sobre el póster en marco dorado de Eden Ahbez. suena también como la portada, a corales y a tesoros marinos, a playas imaginarias, a lluvias monzónicas y a millones de colores vistos a través del caleidoscopio del entrañable Bruce Haack. siempre pienso que cada disco de Valérie es más bonito que el anterior, algo que parecía casi imposible después del split con Baldruin. y también pienso que es más y se merece más de lo que realmente tiene, como Salvador/M.M. Peres. todo en ella es como una oda a la música casera y al háztelo tú mismo, siempre en pequeñas dosis, que en muy pocas ocasiones llegan a canciones, quedándose en el esbozo o simplemente en el delirio sonoro: 'jaguar's vision' y 'astral asteroidea'.

'garden' de Uton dibuja una especie de jungla cósmica que huele a humedad. pura experimentación de percusión finesa ideal para ilustrar un descenso en canoa por el río Amazonas. a veces es inevitable preguntarse qué sentido tiene explicar lo inexplicable, poner en palabras una música tan fácil de visualizar pero tan difícil de definir. pero cuando escuchas canciones tan bonitas como 'macaws', 'polygone', 'jumalan läsnä' o 'tucana's lights' o 'revelation of nammu'...ay, cómo explicar tanta belleza, que tienen esa gravedad especial que te empuja a ponerlas una y otra vez y donde siempre hay algún detalle que pide a gritos unos auriculares y una bicicleta y un día soleado, las dudas se disipan al instante. de cuando los detalles y los matices pasan incomprensiblemente desapercibidos para unos y pesan tanto en otros y cada canción podría formar parte del compilado perfecto. es una suerte que Jani y Valérie se hayan conocido porque seguro que es el principio de muchas cosas bonitas.

sé que no suelo ser objetiva cuando algo me gusta tanto y que me cuesta poner en perspectiva lo que un disco de Uton y Sunhiilow puede significar con el tiempo, pero sí sé que es el tipo de música que siempre quiero escuchar y que de Valérie espero ansiosa cualquier disco suyo. y que el tiempo no podrá nunca con canciones tan atemporales e imaginativas y tan de cuento como las suyas. estoy convencida de que cualquier amante de la library music o de 'science of the sea' debería llorar de felicidad con este split. y de que al acabar 'apsú' y a su vez la cinta, recordarás de nuevo esa frase que decía: 'hay otros mundos pero están en éste'. no sé si llegará muy lejos, espero, quiero, deseo que sí, pero esta cajita con funda de tela amarilla figurará como destacada en mi lista de favoritos del año.
