Me gusta pensar que nuestro microcosmos no va a parar de expandirse jamás, pero a veces resulta que hay estrellas que nunca se van a apagar. Andaba yo atrapado por las sinuosas texturas de Endless Cavern y por mi inconsciente merodeaban Manuel Göttsching, Conny Plank, Terry Riley… cuando decidí echarle un vistazo a la reseña del sello y ahí estaba Matt Lajoie, antaño favorito en Cursillistas y al que por la vorágine de discos que revolotean a nuestro alrededor perdí la pista años atrás. Cuando conectas con algo de forma natural y te das cuenta quién estaba detrás parece que todo encaja ¿verdad? Las centelleantes y reverberantes ‘cryptocrystalline pt. III –agate’ y ‘sol sister’, deudoras de las exploraciones cósmicas del rock alemán, dan paso a ‘unthaw’ que como una luz en el camino emerge con un aire minimal y submarino tan especial que sólo podríamos atribuir a la varita mágica de Norm Chambers o Günter Schlienz. El split lo completa una larga suite in crescendo de Outer Vertex que prosigue en la exploración del más allá tejiendo una estela psicodélica a su paso.

poco o nada se sabe de The Hawkline Orchestra, una de estas dos cintas misteriosas de Cabin Floor Esoterica, sello especial y diminuto, casi de culto, que por alguna razón siempre relacionaré con L'Animaux Tryst Field Recordings. cuando sabes que nada de lo que pueda editar te decepcionará. clima y textura, sonido añejo y destartalado, cintas, loops, hauntología casera sepultada bajo un sedante manto analógico. el balance justo de melancolía y sobriedad. ¿os acordáis de Sinner Jim Whitney y Franklin & Lajoie? algo me dice que Matt Lajoie y White Fir podrían tener algo que ver, pero no estoy segura. hacia el final de la cara a sucede algo mágico, algo familiar y a la vez desconocido, una trompeta que parece venir del más allá, de un baile de salón de los años cincuenta a punto de desaparecer, figuras irreconocibles que se quedan atrás para siempre... sí, tal vez nada que no hiciera antes The Caretaker o Crippling, pero la esencia primitiva y fantasmagórica, casi inaccesible, de The Hawkline Orchestra lo envuelve todo de un telón invisible, que lo separa del resto, difícil explicar.

amor a primera vista. The Winter~Long Mud Puddle, más bonita y emocionante, es una de esas cintas que hay que tratar con delicadeza y escuchar en el momento adecuado, música que te aisla y que nunca deberías escuchar a la luz del día sino en completo y absoluto silencio. la sublimación absoluta de la bajísima fidelidad, la lentitud y la levedad, la melancolía y la emoción pura arropadas por un fondo de drones y cierto aroma Field Studies y Worn Habit. sintetizadores tan library music, tan espectrales, borrosos, nublados, difusos, que a mí me encogen el corazón. y de nuevo, algo inexplicable sucede a partir del minuto cuatro de la cara b, algo abstracto, indefinido e indefinible, segundos, minutos que nunca adivinarías de dónde vienen y que te dejan completamente abducida, seducida, absorbida, emocionada... magia. la portada me recuerda a Of the Dreams and Ambitions y ya no puedo decir más. esas sorpresas inesperadas de la vida, cuanto más bajito, mejor...siempre mejor.

Flowering contains ten fresh transmissions of opaque and somber yet delightfully ambitious and sprawling explorations. "sacred basil is the trio of nicholas barker (tempera), matt lajoie (cursillistas) and jordan spencer (gorman) and their collective talents are lighting up the skies. "tuvan annex" starts of shimmering and peaceful but it's a total ruse. guitar lines get washed into an oscillating oblivion and everything gets bathed in a heavy dose of noise swash. it's like being stuck in a tornado, desperately searching for a way out. the shimmer returns but with full-on density and triumph. each shift feels in the zone. blissed guitars and electronics join together, siamese twins moving in perfect harmony. contemplative, sparsely used notes flicker like a lightbulb about to give up hoping to make one final impression before crossing the great divide. there's something almost heartbreaking about it all.

but those aren't the only paths being crossed ~ not at all. rickety, looping acoustic guitars thrum their way forward with barely-audible background beats and electronic backwash. it's like being lost when nobody wants to admit their mistake. it's unsettling but worthwhile as it finally comes together and everything gets sucked to the bottom in a massive, exquisite whirlpool of sound. love those collaborations." digitalis

Cursillistas drops a jangling moving extended drone piece at a totally different side of the spectrum from Matt's usual song-based jams. Dropped together in a hurry outside the Morning Glory in Pittsburgh - "Sagittarius" is misspelled! - but full of love regardless. Cursillistas es en realidad Matthew John LaJoie, un duende de Portland con lazos y sentimientos británicos. en Thrush Times demuestra su fascinación por el pasado, por las grabaciones de Harry Smith, por el psych folk británico y la música tradicional india. construye su música, al igual que Joshua Burkett, Justin Vollmar, The Skygreen Leopards, Ethereal Planes Indian o Hush Arbors, sobre una montaña de folk psicodélico, rupestre, tribal, repleto de tonadillas desnudas que se inspiran por momentos en Palace Brothers o en Greg Ashley (esa voz tan dulce...). acústicas, organillo, vientos, títulos extraños, banjos a la deriva...y aunque para mí sea un desconocido, todo estaba escrito ya en el delicioso Rotary and Gems. sólo puedo recomendaros que hagáis todo lo posible por escuchar la preciosa Hands (haunt) Feet.
